The Fall River Public Library offers online, full-text access to hundreds of magazines, newspapers, encyclopedias and e-books. So whether you need to check car ratings in Consumer Reports, research treatments for autism, or find literary criticism of The Great Gatsby, we've got you covered.

Magazines / Reference : Search thousands of popular magazines, academic journals, newspapers, and electronic reference books. Look here for biography, business, health, history, literature, science and other research topics. Students can find peer-reviewed journal articles and get MLA or APA citations for bibliographies.
Encyclopedia Britannica : Complete full-text access to the Encyclopedia Britannica, one of the world's most trusted reference sources.
Boston Globe : Full-text archives of Boston Globe articles from 1980-present.
Fall River Atlas, 1883 : Page-by-page digital images of the Atlas of Fall River City, Massachusetts, published by Geo. H. Walker & Co., 1883. You can also download the full atlas as a PDF (note: large file size) or view more Massachusetts atlases here.
Local History : See digital images of old postcards and photographs of Fall River, read about Fall River's history, look through old yearbooks from Durfee High School, or view yearbooks from local Catholic schools and colleges in our digital collections.
Historic local newspapers, dating back to the 19th century, are available on microfilm. The library has three microfilm readers and one reader/scanner that allows you to save images digitally. Microfilm printing is available at $.25 per page.

Consumer Reports online lets you easily search current and past reviews of cars, appliances, and hundreds of other products. To access CR outside the library, use your Fall River library card. We also have print copies of Consumer Reports magazine.

Salem Press - History
Full-text access to e-books on American and world history and culture, including Salem Press Decades, the acclaimed reference set covering the cultural, political, and social history of the 20th Century in America. Currently includes coverage from the 1920s-2000s, as well as Notorious Lives, a biographical encyclopedia of scandalous and celebrated people throughout history. (The print versions are also available in the reference room.)

Full-text, keyword-searchable encyclopedias of Magill's Medical Guide, covering diseases, conditions, treatments, and current health issues, as well as Psychology and Mental Health, covering topics such as addiction, learning disabilities, personality, and behavioral disorders. Salem Press - Science
Full-text access to the Encyclopedia of Energy, covering both current and historic sources of energy.
Zinio : Read complete current and back issues of popular magazines. You will need to create a Zinio account, in addition to your library account, to access Zinio.

Ancestry has millions of records you can search to find census, immigration, military, and other genealogical and historical listings for your ancestors.
This resume-writing program will not only help you design a resume targeted to your career, it also includes an online job search component. Available in the reference room.
If you are doing more extensive research, you may need to go beyond what is available in these collections. The Boston Public Library has one of the state's largest collections of electronic resources, and as a Massachusetts resident, you are entitled to use their collection. You will need to apply online for a special Boston Public Library e-card. This process is free and takes less than a minute. You will gain instant access to information sources in art and literature, business, law, health and medicine, science, foreign language materials and many more subject areas. Many of these resources, such as the journal article database JSTOR, are available in full text. If you need an article that is not available in full text, we may be able to order a copy of it for you through interlibrary loan, either in hard copy or electronically. Ask a reference librarian for assistance.
