Below find the Fall River Herald News Obituary Index. At present, we have indexing available for many years of the 1930s through the 2010s. This project is still a work in progress and we will make more index files available as they are completed.
Each year links to a PDF sorted by last name and includes the individual’s first and last name, maiden and spouse names if applicable, and the date the obituary appeared in the paper. No other data is listed in the index. To see the full obituary, which may include burial information and names of relatives, you can access the newspaper online, if it is available, or come to the library and read the newspaper on microfilm. Printing is available at 25¢ per page.
If you know the full name and date of death, you can submit an obituary request via mail or email. Obituary requests are free, but please limit requests to no more than 3 at a time. Please send written requests to Fall River Public Library, Attn: Reference Department, 104 North Main Street, Fall River, MA 02720.
Some Fall River newspapers are available online. At the current time, we have access to the Fall River Herald News (1926-1979 and 1998-2000), Fall River Globe (1924-1927), and an assortment of other Fall River Historic Newspapers (1826-1923). These collections are keyword searchable. We also have text-only access to the Fall River Herald News, 1999-present, through Newsbank (you will need your library card to log in remotely). Any newspapers that do not fall in this date range must be accessed on microfilm.
